A long-term visa called a Thai Retirement Visa, also known as a Non-Immigrant O-A visa, enables foreigners over the age of 50 to reside in Thailand for at least one year in order to retire. The general conditions and procedures for obtaining a Thai retirement visa are as follows:
1. You must be 50 years of age or older.
2. Own a passport with at least one year of remaining validity.
3. Offer a medical certificate from a Thai or foreign hospital attesting to your physical and mental fitness for travel and long-term residence in Thailand.
4. You must present a police clearance certificate from your native country or from any other nation where you have spent more than six months in the previous year.
5. Give evidence of your ability to make ends meet, such as a bank statement showing a minimum balance of 800,000 baht or documentation of a pension or other monthly income of at least 65,000 baht.
6. Get a non-immigrant O-A visa from the Thai embassy or consulate in your place of origin or current residence.
You must check in with the immigration office in Thailand within the first 90 days of your stay and then every 90 days after that to verify your residence and status. If you continue to meet the financial and medical standards, you may also request an extension of your retirement visa for up to a year at a time.
